Cookie Monster's pet

Cookie monster has been saving his money for a lizard. I told him he needed to earn the money himself because one, I wanted to procrastinate getting the lizard and two, I wanted him to realize that a lizard cost a lot of money. Today we went by the pet shop and he decided he wanted. . . . a hampster instead of a lizard!!!!! I told him that was a great choice. It is a lot easier to take care of and a lot more fun. He chose a dwarf hampster and it is absolutely adorable. It's about the size of a thumb and so cute. I googled a picture because I didn't want to wake up the boy to get a picture of the one we got, it pretty much looks just like this.

Now I hope it doesn't escape. . . .

It is really soft too. Its fun to hold but I always feel like I am going to break the poor thing if I breath the wrong way.

I'll stick with dogs.

I had a hamster when I was a kid. The biggest problem with them is they are nocturnal. And they are escape artists. The cage needs a tight fitting lid. I kept mine in a 10 gallon aquarium with a piece of plywood sitting on top (with air holes in it). The goofy thing would climb up the water bottle and manage to slide the plywood over so it could get out. They do it in the middle of the night, but I heard it running around on the floor and was able to catch it.

Cute. Will it be cute when it runs off under the bed and wont come out? Like some stoopid mouse I had when I was about 10.

What kind of hammie is it? We have 2 Chinese Dwarfs and we wuv them. They are SO sweet.

And a tip for you: Ya know those "whisper quiet" exercise wheels? They LIE!

Our poor hammies have their wheel removed nightly so that we aren't tempted to shoot the little buggers.

;D

Sometimes I also have to remove their food dish and their water bottle because they bang them on the cage.

To keep them from getting bored, I toos in an occasional bit of carrot or a piece of clean, safe wood or something else that's fun to explore or gnaw on.
